Like many stair builders I hate metal
spiral stairs. They lack sculptural
volume, they're rickety and they look
cheap. But in New York City where
space is limited I'm often called upon to
install some kind of spiral staircase.
Therefore I've designed this spiral to
address the limitations of the mass
produced stairs. The stair is all wood
with a central wood column, risers that
are mortised through the column and a
curved stringer to tie everything
together. The base configuration of
this stair remains the same but it can
be modified to be anything the client
wants. I've included several options
and I will add more variations to this
page over time.
